Justin DeBlasio – Founder, Director, Coach


Playing Background
:
Justin was a four-year Varsity starter for Coach Eddie Rapp at Santa Margarita HS from ’93-‘97 leading his team to a CIF Championship in 1997. In 1995 Justin earned 2nd team all-league honors as a sophomore. As a junior he was named Sea View league MVP in 1996 and 1st team all CIF. And his senior year he was named 1st team all League and 1st all CIF. Justin played Club Volleyball for 5 years and earned 2 bronze medals (’93 & ‘94) and a silver medal (’95).  Justin was named to the Junior Olympic all tournament team twice (93 & 95). Justin played at the University of the Pacific his freshman year where he earned a starting position half way through the season. His sophomore year he transferred and played at the University of Arizona where he studied Graphic Design and played on the 1999 NIRSA National Championship team.

Brandon Taliaferro - Founder, Director, Coach 


Playing Background
:
Brandon was a four-year varsity volleyball starter for Coach Mike Hurlbutt at San Clemente High from 1992-96. Four-time first-team All-American, three-time All-CIF and all-league selection. Led San Clemente to the 1995 CIF finals. Two-time Jr. Olympics gold medalist (1995 and ‘96). Finals MVP ’96. 4 time All American. 1996 Los Angeles Times Orange County Player of the Year. Member of the U.S. Jr. National Team. Four-time All American setter for UCLA. led Bruins to 2 NCAA Championships in 1998 and 2000. Named MVP of the 2000 NCAA Championship Final Four. Brandon stopped playing volleyball in 2003 due to chronic lower back pain. He bought A to Z Leak Detection in 2004 and still runs the company (www.atozleakdetection.com). Credits the Egoscue Method for relieving his lower back pain and allowing him to return to the U.S. National Team when it moved to Anaheim, Calif., in the spring of 2005. He played with the National team through 2008 and was the alternate setter for the 2008 Olympic Gold Medal team. Has played beach volleyball on the AVP and FIVB tours.

College Highlights:
2000
– Earned First Team AVCA and Asics Volleyball Magazine All-America honors. Also voted to the All-MPSF First Team. 2000 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year. Led UCLA to the NCAA National Championship. Named the championship Most Outstanding Player and named to the All-Tournament Team. Named UCLA Player of the Year. Holds the UCLA individual career record for most set assists with 6,840. 1999 – Earned First Team AVCA and Asics Volleyball Magazine All-America honors. Also voted to the All-MPSF First Team.  1998 – Led UCLA to an NCAA National Championship. Earned First Team AVCA and Asics Volleyball All-America honors. Also named First Team All-MPSF.  1997 – Earned MPSF and Volleyball Freshman of the Year honors. Also named AVCA Second Team All-American and Third Team All-MPSF. Set a UCLA freshman record of 1,707 set assists, just 89 shy of the school single season record.

Tom Hoff

Personal:
Born Thomas John Hoff on June 9, 1973 in Chicago, Ill…. Son of Margaret and Richard Hoff… His wife’s name is Sandy… Together they are the proud parents of five daughters, Tatum Bella, born in 2003, Ella Aniston, born in 2005, Ava Antonia, born in 2007 and twins Demi and Zoey born in September 2009… Graduated from Long Beach State University in 1996 with a degree in mechanical engineering… In 2002, he was inducted into Long Beach State’s Athletics Hall of Fame… In 2006, Tom was added to Long Beach State’s men’s volleyball Wall of Honor… Became the U.S. Men’s team captain in 2005 and quickly found out that the title is not honorary: “It involves a lot more work behind the scenes that people don’t know about,” Hoff said. “Most of the work is done away from the scenes, behind closed doors.”

Ryan Van Rensselaer 

Playing Background:
Started playing volleyball at Laguna Beach High in 1987- Played Frosh Soph that year as starting setter and won league. Played Varsity Volleyball 2 years 1989-1990 (Setter) at El Toro High School. Played 4 years club for Laguna Beach Volleyball club – Won 1 Junior Olympic title, one runner up and one 3rd place.  Starting setter for Orange Coast College Volleyball team 1990-1st Place in Conference & State Champions (All State 1st Team & All conference 1st Team).  Starting Setter for OCC in 1991 – Won conference and took 3rd place in State (All conference/ All State 1st Team).  1991 began training for AVP qualification tournaments.   Stopped actively pursuing AVP in 1992 to focus on education and commitments to Youth Ministry.  Picked up beach volleyball again in 2001 and still continue to play competitive CBA & AVP tournaments at the AAA level   

Coaching Background:
Coached the Frosh-Soph boy’s team at El Toro high school in 1993 (League Champs) Also assisted head coach Mike Jagde with varsity team who lost in Semi-Finals of CIF that year.  Assistant head coach/ helped out head coach Dave Crandall at Mission Viejo high school in 1994 (primarily working with setter).  2009 Began training high school and college athletes on the beach specifically to enhance their indoor game through sand plyometrics and jump training.  Currently Head Varsity Coach for Saddleback Valley Christian School.

Kelly Caldwell

Playing Background:

 2 year captain at Mira Costa High School where he played setter, outside hitter, and sometimes middle blocker.  After suffering through mononucleosis during his senior season he still made 2nd team all-league and led his team to the semifinals in the div-1 playoffs.  He was a 1999 all-tournament selection at Junior Nationals. In 2000 his team earned the Bronze Medal.  He started as a freshman at Long Beach State and was offered a spot with the USA team for the University Games.   Kelly retired after his sophmore year for health reasons.  He has been an elite beach player since high school and continues to compete on the beach. 

Coaching Background:

Kelly started coaching immediately after graduating high school with his brother’s team, which won a Gold medal in 2001.  He then went on to coach at his former club, SCVC, for 9 years where he won a Bronze medal and 3 more Gold Medals.  In 2004 to 2005 he was an assistant coach with the UCLA women’s volleyball team.

Ricardo has been coaching boy’s and girls club volleyball since 2002. He has been a certified USVA Court Coach since 2004.

Cary Wendell Wallin

Cary has over 15 years of volleyball experience as both a hitter and a setter for Arroyo Grande High School, SLO Juniors, Stanford University, and the National Team. She has experienced team and individual success at every level, and was always known as a player that made others around her better. Cary was recently inducted into the Stanford Hall of Fame.  Her career highlights include:

 

Cary married fellow Stanford athlete, Brian Wallin.  They have two children (Kayli – 5 ½ and Chase – 2 ½ ).  Cary has coached numerous college and all American volleyball camps.  She is looking forward to using her knowledge of the game and her positive coaching style to help 949 athletics 14’s 1 girls team reach their full potential. Cary wants every member of her team to have the positive experiences that she had and to realize their team and individual goals.
